What's the Stitch? The Leaf Stitch!

(all images are provided with the appropriate source links)

Our next feature stitch is the Leaf Stitch!

It conveniently ties in with the previously feature stitch, the Alpine Stitch, as it also deals with beautiful textured work.

How It's Done

The Leaf Stitch is a bit tougher compared to the Alpine Stitch, though. This one involves a full-on cable mindset as you count and pull the right stitches during front post work. However, if you love the way it looks, then it will be worth the effort!

Instructions for the stitch are linked to the image below. If you can read diagrams, then the instructions will be very straightforward (despite it being in Spanish). There is also a YouTube tutorial included in the source page.

Projects Featuring the Leaf Stitch

As always, the possibilities are endless.I imagine beautiful embossed work like this shows off best in garments or accessories, which seems to be the consensus on my search today.

First up, we have this beautiful buttoned cowl by ABCuteCreations. This would be a great starter project if you’re getting acquainted with this stitch, but not up for too much commitment!

Or you can place the leaves to create a collar! Designed by Mon Petit Violon, it's also a cowl, with a bit more flourish. And a turtleneck!

This next one is a sweater designed by the same woman as the previous cowl. All of her pattens are gorgeous, and I recommend you check out her Etsy shop!

I love the color combo!

Here is another yoke design:

Why don't we just complete the set with a Leaf Stitch beanie?

These leaves are slightly curled with “berries” that come up evenly with the leaves.

I just love the color choice! It's so winter!

The same concept was applied to this embossed bag designed by the same woman, Natalia Kononova. The berries are all on their own separate branch this time.

I think the pattern also shows you how to line the finished bag with fabric (for sturdiness).

Finally, this is how it looks when doing color-work with this stitch:

I hope you enjoyed discovering a new stitch today! Happy making!
